Vietnam U-17 visits & plays at Eintracht Frankfurt!

As part of the ‘Youth Incubator Project’ from the DFL and Next Media Vietnam, Eintracht Frankfurt’s U-16 team played a friendly against the Vietnamese U-17 national side, with the young Eagles triumphing 3-0.

During their tour of Germany, the delegation from the southeast Asian country visited the youth academies of Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, 1.FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The background to their stay is a sporting exchange and the objective of offering promising talents from Vietnam’s U-17 team a perspective on football in Germany. Since Monday 28 March, the delegation have been guests in Frankfurt.

The Vietnamese national side are undergoing up to two training sessions per day at Riederwald, with the focus on defensive transitions. The highlight of the visit to Frankfurt has been the match against the Eintracht Frankfurt U16s. In what was an even contest to begin with, the Eagles took the lead in the first half through an Aiden Harangi header.

There was little between the teams at the start of the second half either, with the Vietnam U17s probing for an equaliser but lacking the cutting edge in front of goal. Midway through the second period, Altrin Hoti made it 2-0 to all but settle the contest, and Mehmet Afsar wrapped it up with a sumptuous direct free-kick from a good 30 metres out, completing an overall deserved 3-0 win for the young Eagles.

U16 coach Sebastian Haag reflected on the game with satisfaction and also had plenty of praise for the opposition. “I think we played very well. We watched Vietnam’s game at Borussia Dortmund, which enabled us to prepare a bit,” said Haag, adding: “The national team from Vietnam are a technically very strong side. They bring a lot of positive energy and aggression onto the pitch. They lacked firepower in attack today, which is why they weren’t able to create that many chances.”

The Vietnamese youngsters have time to recover on Thursday, when they’ll also be going sightseeing in the city on the Main. The final training sessions at Riederwald then take place on Friday and Saturday morning, before the delegation visit Deutsche Bank Park, where the Eintracht Frankfurt first team take on SpVgg Greuther Fürth at 15:30 CEST on Matchday 28 of the Bundesliga.
