Werder Bremen loan Maximilian Philipp from VfL Wolfsburg!

SV Werder Bremen have agreed a loan deal with VfL Wolfsburg for Maximilian Philipp. The 28-year-old attacker joins the Green-Whites until the end of the season, subject to a medical examination. In addition, Oliver Burke is about to complete a loan move to another club, also dependent on a medical.

“Due to the upcoming loan of Oliver Burke, the sporting necessity and the economic opportunity has arisen, which we had to react to. We are pleased that we were able to sign Maximilian. He brings plenty of experience with over 130 Bundesliga appearances and will make us more flexible in attack. He has not had the easiest of times in Wolfsburg of late, but we are optimistic that he will show his quality with us,” said Clemens Fritz, director of scouting and professional football.

Ole Werner was also pleased with the new signing. “Maximilian is a really good footballer, who can play in attacking midfield or as a second striker. This signing gives us further options in our attacking play.”

Maximilian Philipp looked forward optimistically to his new challenge on the Weser. “Werder is a great club. I am looking forward to the task and the chance to be able to play for Werder. I want to help the team and get more playing time again. I know that there is a lot of competition for places, but I am up for the challenge and want to play my part in Werder continuing to play such successful football.”

Maximilian Philipp has made three Bundesliga appearances for VfL Wolfsburg this season, and in total has played 137 times in the top flight for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and VfL Wolfsburg, with 27 goals and 15 assists.

Burke, in turn, moved to Werder from Sheffield United during the summer break. So far, the 25-year-old Scot has played 17 competitive matches for SV Werder, scoring two goals. The attacker will also be on loan until the end of the season.
