Werder Bremen supervisory board members not to stand for re-elections!

SV Werder Bremen’s relegation to Bundesliga 2 is a huge moment in the club’s history. The supervisory board came to two important decisions this weekend. The four elected members of the supervisory board – Marco Bode, Andreas Hoetzel, Thomas Krohne and Kurt Zech – will not stand for re-election at the club’s general meeting due to take place in September. The other decision was to keep on Frank Baumann as sporting director.

“We are focusing on the future now. We need to be working as a team and unit at all levels. Our executive board needs to be intact and capable of making decisions because there are extremely important decisions to be made during this period,” explained Marco Bode, chairman of the supervisory board. “The most important task for the whole management board is now to find a head coach and put together a team capable of fighting for promotion,” said Bode.

The supervisory board also took responsibility for the first relegation from the Bundesliga for over 40 years. “We think the time for a structured new start has arrived. That means a new supervisory board that can provide a fresh impetus,” explained Andreas Hoetzel, who also added: “We are aware of our responsibility and will continue to work with passion for the club until the general meeting in September.”
