XtraTime VIDEO: Did SC East Bengal officials fail to overturn Antonio Perosevic ban?

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee has upheld its decision against SC East Bengal striker Antonio Perosevic of a five-match suspension plus a fine of INR 100,000 (1 lakh) for his violent conduct towards the match referee Rahul Kumar Gupta during the 2021-22 ISL game against NorthEast United FC.

But XtraTime has brought to light that the SC East Bengal management failed to come to an online disciplinary hearing on Monday to defend Perosevic and try to get his ban reduced!

Antonio Perosevic had lodged an appeal on Saturday, January 8 with the AIFF Disciplinary Committee to reduce the penalty. Perosevic mentioned in his appeal he “had no intention of making contact with referee or indulging in any act that constitutes violent conduct.”

The AIFF Appeal Committee deliberated the matter on January 10 and dismissed Perosevic’s plea in full. The AIFF body then confirmed that the decision by the Disciplinary Committee would stand. The Croatian was also ordered to pay an additional INR 60,000 towards the cost and expenses of the appeal.

Antonio Perosevic has been one of the few positives for a struggling SC East Bengal, but he will have to sit down a couple of more matches as he has already served three of his five-game suspension. He is slated to miss out SC East Bengal’s next two games scheduled against Jamshedpur FC (on January 11) and FC Goa (on January 19).
