York United announce signing of French goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini!

York United FC have announced the signing of French goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini, with the 30-year putting pen to paper on a one-year deal, plus a club option.

Boasting plenty of high-profile pedigree, Vincensini started out at his local side SC Bastia and made his senior debut for the club in a Ligue 2 game in May 2012. After the side won promotion to the top tier at the end of the season, he continued to be part of the matchday squad for a number of fixtures across 2013/14. Having made his Ligue 1 debut off the bench in a 1-1 draw away to Lorient in 2015, there was a very first top-tier start early the next year as he kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory away to Stade Reims. The following season, there were three more Ligue 1 appearances against Nantes, Montpellier and Angers.

Later, Vincensini signed for Valenciennes in Ligue 2 before moving to Lens and picking up more minutes. In 2020, he returned to Bastia and enjoyed himself, making 52 appearances across all competitions and keeping 17 clean sheets.

Vincensini was most recently with Belgian side Royal Excelsior Virton, wearing the captain’s armband for the final number of games in the 2022/23 campaign. In 24 appearances in all competitions, he kept three clean sheets.

“Thomas is an exciting addition and brings a ton of great experience,” says Martin Nash, Head Coach of York United FC. “He’s got excellent agility, his decision-making is sharp and he’s comfortable with the ball at his feet. He’s a leader and a calm influence and he’s played consistently over the past few seasons at a very high level. He’s going to be a key part of this group.”
