1st AFC Coach Education Panel meeting 2022-2023 successfully convenes!

The 1st AFC Coach Education Panel Meeting for the term 2022-2023 concluded yesterday, March 1 with members briefed on new initiatives to further enhance coach education in Asia as well as the progress of the AFC Coaching Convention.

The virtual meeting was chaired by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Technical Director Andy Roxburgh and attended by 13 Member Association (MA) representatives.

The panel was updated on the status of the AFC Coaching Convention that continues to enjoy steady momentum with 37 MAs currently endorsed and seven MAs seeking endorsement while an additional 10 MAs are under evaluation to upgrade their status.

To further expand and develop the AFC’s Coaching Convention, key targets to further improve the level of education and practical experience that are crucial to raise the standards of football in the Continent were also discussed in great detail.

With the aim of protecting players and the sport, there was also a comprehensive dialogue on the required AFC coaching qualifications, particularly for those applying for technical jobs, attending diploma courses of a higher category or conducting coach education courses.

Among other key topics highlighted include the design of an Elite-Youth Diploma while the panel also reviewed the criteria for gaining AFC recognition to become an AFC Coach Education tutor.
