2017 FIFA Confederations Cup: FIFA names Technical Study Group and awards!

The FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG), which analyses matches at international tournaments and highlights the latest trends in the game, will be made up of the following renowned football experts for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia!

Gabriel Calderon: former Argentina international who played at the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cups™, winner of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Japan 1979 and former coach of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain.

Rodrigo Kenton: former coach of Costa Rica’s national team, including as an assistant at the 1990 FIFA World Cup™, and assistant coach of Nigeria at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Wynton Rufer: former New Zealand international who played at the 1982 FIFA World Cup, former coach of Papua New Guinea’s national team and FIFA Oceania Player of the Century.

Marco van Basten: FIFA Chief Technical Development Officer, former Dutch international who played at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the FIFA U-20 World Cup 1983, winner of the UEFA EURO 1988, FIFA World Player of the Year 1992, winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1988, 1989 and 1992, and former coach of the Dutch national team.

In addition to studying the teams’ training methods, tactics and performances, the TSG will also be responsible for choosing the winners of adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze Balls, and the adidas Golden Glove.

adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze Balls: the Golden Ball will be awarded to the best player in the competition. A Silver Ball and a Bronze Ball will be awarded to the second and third-best players.

adidas Golden, Silver and Bronze Boots: the Golden Boot will be awarded to the player who scores the most goals in the competition. A Silver Boot and a Bronze Boot for the second and third-highest goalscorers will also be awarded.

adidas Golden Glove: the Golden Glove will be awarded to the best goalkeeper in the tournament.

Fair Play Trophy: a fair play medal for each player and official, a diploma and a voucher for USD 10,000 worth of football equipment (to be used for youth football development) will be presented to the team finishing first in the fair-play contest. The TSG will determine the respective ranking at the end of the competition.
