2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup – India: MatchDay 2 – Round-up!

The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India continued today, October 7 with Group C and Group D matches taking place in Margao and Kochi.

Football powerhouses Brazil and Germany started their 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign in India on a successful note, while debutants Niger secured their place in the history books with a win against North Korea.

Brazil registered a 2-1 win against Spain in front of an impressive crowd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Spain took an early lead through an own goal by Wesley, but Lincoln and Paulinho turned the match into Brazil’s favour within the first half.

The second Group D match of the day saw Niger win their first ever FIFA World Cup match as Salim Abdourahmane scored the lone goal against North Korea.

Germany had luck on their side as Christian Wück’s team scored in the dying moments of their Group C match against Costa Rica. Star striker Jann-Fiete Arp, who made his Bundesliga debut only last Saturday, opened the scoresheet for the Germans, while Andres Gomez levelled the scoreline in the second half, but Noah Awuku managed to score a late winner for Germany.

Meanwhile, Iran secured a convincing 3-1 win against Guinea. The fans in Goa had to wait till the second half to see both sides start scoring.

The tournament will continue tomorrow with two Group E matches in Guwahati (New Caledonia vs France, Honduras vs Japan) and two Group F matches in Kolkata (Chile vs England, Iraq vs Mexico).
