fifa-u17-world-cup-official-emblemThe 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup will be held across six cities in India from October 6 to 28 with the draw for the six groups with 24 nations set to be held on July 7 in a to be decided city.

This was announced by the 13 member FIFA inspection team, which cleared Kolkata as the sixth and final venue after Kochi, Mumbai, Goa, New Delhi and Guwahati had been cleared as venues and host cities/states over the last few days.

It has not been finalised which cities would host the opening match and the final of the tournament though Kolkata is hoping to be able to host the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup final at the iconic Saltlake Stadium, which is getting its biggest ever renovation and reconstruction done since its opening in 1984.

Javier Ceppi, Tournament Director of the LOC said, “We are very happy to complete the process of ratification of venues for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 with Kolkata. This goes to show that, a year from the Tournament, we are in a good place with the progress made. We now need to concentrate on all the details that will make this Tournament successful. We are extremely appreciative of the support that the Government of West Bengal has given us right from the start. The World Cup has taken its rightful place here as the single most important football event that this football crazy state has ever hosted.”
