The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Friday, June 15 afternoon with Uruguay beating Egypt 1-0 in Group A through a late goal from Jose Gimenez at the Ekaterinburg Arena.
The story of the game is quickly told, Uruguay had more of the ball while Egypt was happy to defend deep as Uruguay’s star strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani were not as sharp as they normally are allowing Egypt to get away without conceding and further their keeper Mohamed Elshenawy had an exceptional day in office.
But a minute from time as Egypt had fought and by then earned a goalless draw, a free-kick from Carlos Sanchez and a pointed bullet header by Jose Gimenez was all that it needed for Uruguay to finally confirm their three points, which towards the end of the match had looked more and more unlikely.
