2018 FIFA World Cup – Group H: Poland eliminated after 0-3 Colombia loss!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Sunday, June 24 evening with Poland being eliminated at the group after 0-3 loss to Colombia at the Kazan Arena.

After this afternoons result of Japan and Senegal drawing, it was clear that the loser of this match would be out, so it was a rough and tough start to the match.

Colombia had more of the ball, while Poland was willing to take a wait and watch approach with no real chance for most of the first half. Things changed towards the end and in their second attempt, Colombia went ahead, a cross from James Rodriguez, a header from Yerry Mina, 1-0 for Colombia in the 40th minute. It would stay this way at the break.

In the second session, Poland had to do more to avoid elimination but they only had one good chance through their captain Robert Lewandowski, while Colombia continued with their combination football and fast attacks over the wings.

After missing a few chances in the 70th minute, Quintero played a perfect through ball for captain Radamel Falcao, who placed the ball past keeper Szczesny to make it 2-0. The South American fans were celebrating, while Poland was shocked and they conceded another goal only five minutes later as James Rodriguez played an incredible pass from the left behind the Polish defence, which Juan Cuadrado reached and placd into the net past his club team mate Szczesny in goal.

Poland in the end tried to get a consolation goal, but it wasn’t to be as Colombia celebrated a memorable victory.
