The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Saturday, June 30 evening with an Edinson Cavani double won it for Uruguay in a 2-1 over Portugal at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.
Uruguay took an early 7th minute lead as Luis Suarez found strike partner Edinson Cavani in the 7th minute and he headed the South Americans into the lead.
Portugal had more of the ball as Uruguay defended deep, but no real impact from the European champions as the half ended 1-0 for Uruguay.
Portugal upped their attacks in the second session and they got the equaliser in the 55th minute when a Guerreiro cross was headed in by defender Pepe.
In a phase when Portugal seemed to take control of the game, Uruguay stunned them again. Bentacur in the 62nd minute found Cavani on the left and he curled in a beauty to give Uruguay once more the lead.
Portugal now had chances to equalise once more but they wasted them all as Uruguay defended as one would expect them and won the match 2-1 to progress to the quarterfinals.
