2018 FIFA World Cup – PQF: Sweden overcome Switzerland 1-0!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup continued on Tuesday, July 3 afternoon with Sweden overcoming Switzerland 1-0 through a Emil Forsberg goal at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.

The story of the first half is quickly told, Sweden were the alert side from the start with Switzerland needing time to settle down into the match in a tactical match.

The winner came in the 66th minute through RB Leipzog midfielder Emil Forsberg, whose weak attempt was deflected by Manuel Akanji into his own net without a chance for keeper Yann Sommer.

Towards the end Switzerland risked everything but Sweden was unable to finish off the game with their counter attacks until the third minute of added time, when Martin Olsson was brought down by Michael Lang and referee Skomina showed Lang a red card and pointed to the spot but VAR corrected that fact and only a direct free-kick outside the box was given. The last attempt and Sweden won the game 1-0.
