2nd AFC Coach Education Panel Meeting lay plans to improve coaching standards in Asia!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted the 2nd AFC Coach Education Panel Meeting for the term 2022-2023 virtually yesterday to further strengthen the capabilities of coaches in Asia.

Chaired by AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh, the meeting was attended by representatives from 17 Member Associations (MAs).

Roxburgh said: “The AFC has a lot to offer to the MAs to help them build solid coach education programmes. The onus is on us to support those who need help and to direct them on to the right path. We must find ways to create more educational opportunities and programmes that specifically aid each MA.”

The panel meeting commenced with a welcome address from Roxburgh which was followed by an update on the status of the AFC Coaching Convention which currently boasts 40 endorsed MAs where seven have been afforded Pro-level membership.

In the A-level category, 14 MAs have been endorsed while 19 MAs currently hold B-level memberships with the Lao Football Federation (LFF) being the newest member.

Further, 15 MAs are currently seeking to upgrade their status, with an additional four MAs awaiting evaluation to be endorsed in the landmark AFC Coaching Convention.

The panel held extensive dialogues on the many ways that coach education can benefit their respective MAs and went on to discuss the plans for the future such as enabling MAs to have a stable and self-sufficient system.

Firmly set on improving coaching standards on the Continent through a holistic development of grassroots football, identifying talented players and calibrating Coach Education, the panel also set out targets to be achieved to further expand and develop the AFC’s Coaching Convention through initiatives such as establishing an Elite-Youth Diploma, delivering more C-license courses, and increasing Pro-level members.
