81,365 spectators see thrilling German Supercup 2019!

Borussia Dortmund has won the Supercup 2019 in the sold-out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK in Dortmund. In a highly entertaining match in front of 81,365 spectators on Saturday evening, the reigning Bundesliga runners-up beat the reigning Bundesliga champions 2-0. The goals were scored by Paco Alcacer (48th minute) and Jadon Sancho (69th minute).

After the match, DFL President Dr Reinhard Rauball and DFL CEO Christian Seifert handed the Supercup trophy to the team captain of Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus. For Borussia Dortmund it was the sixth overall win of the Supercup since the launch of the competition in 1987 and the third title since the Supercup was reinstated in 2010 and has been organised since then by the DFL.

The 20th edition of the Supercup attracted a large amount of interest around the world: The match was broadcast in more than 200 of the 211 FIFA member countries.

Before the game, the three-time Olympic skiing champion Maria Höfl-Riesch, a trustee of the DFL Foundation, presented the Supercup trophy to the crowd – accompanied by FIFA World Cup winning legends representing the two clubs: For Borussia Dortmund the UEFA Champions League winner Karl-Heinz Riedle and for FC Bayern München the German record national player Lothar Matthäus.

The Supercup 2019 was staged with the theme “Elite sport unifies”. Using this slogan, the DFL Foundation has been supporting athletes from other sports via German Sports Aid for many years.
