A better response needed from Football!

Last year saw the cancellation and postponement of the biggest football games around the world and the postponement of the Euros too – whilst it does appear as if things are much on the way back to being normal as the biggest betting sites like these available away from Gamstop are making a swift recovery and games fill the roster once more, but a big question that has been raised over the same period of time is whether or not a better response could’ve been handled in response to the pandemic, and what the future may have in store if something similar comes around again.

One of the most vocal people in football in regards to this has recently raised concerns, the QPR manager Mark Warburton had recently stated that he believes football had its “head buried in the sand” when the pandemic first hit, and in particular for this example it had been seemingly most relevant given the difficulties that faced the EFL and the teams with less revenue on the path to recovery as at the time there had been a lot of talk around whether or not some would make it out of the other side, and whether or not big changes would be needed for the EFL in order to better support these teams too.

Much of this has come as Warburton had stated that he saw first hand at how his players had been making calls to fans over the pandemic period who had been struggling with health issues or known of close family members that had done too, and it had helped to highlight how football had often been in a privileged position where all the discussions had been around a focus on returning and less of a focus around how further support could be offered – in a  statement he even said “We live in a very privileged world, the goalposts have moved and yet football was just carrying on in some ways as if nothing had happened. Of course, football has a big role to play.”

It isn’t just the response of football either but many have suggested sporting as a whole needs to find some change – a big focus throughout the past year has been on getting back to normal whatever the costs may be showing a more transparent approach, and given experts believe this could be the first in many possibilities for a global pandemic event it certainly won’t be the last time change is needed – a better response opportunity is needed, and a plan in order to ensure that any future event can be kept as safe as possible with a focus perhaps away from the sport and more on those who are most impacted.
