Abahani Limited Dhaka won 1-0 against Minerva Punjab FC to go through to the knockout stage of the AFC Cup 2019. Chennaiyin FC crashed out of the tournament despite a 3-2 victory away at Manang Marshyangdi.
Minerva Punjab faced Abahani Limited Dhaka in the last game of the group stage of the AFC Cup 2019 at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati.
Minerva Punjab FC made three changes in their Starting XI with goalkeeper Bhaskar Roy, Mahmoud Al Amna and Makan Chothe starting. Minerva Punjab FC started the game strongly with Samuel Lalmuanpuia’s shot saved by the Abahani Limited Dhaka keeper Alam early on. Minerva Punjab FC kept on building the momentum but could not convert it into goals. The first half finished without a goal being scored.
The second half saw both the teams trying their best to score but it was Minerva Punjab FC who had the better chances. The crossbar was the savior for Abahani Limited Dhaka twice, while Kalif Alhassan’s brilliant free-kick was saved by the Abahani goalkeeper’ fingertips.
Minerva Punjab FC dominated the match with 16 shots in total but were unlucky not to have scored. Against the run of play, Abahani Limited Dhaka managed to sneak one goal in the 91st minute to win it late and qualify for the AFC Cup 2019 knockout stage.
