AFC announces Visa as official regional partner!

The ever growing stature of Asian football was further underlined today as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and VISA, the global payment services provider, announced a regional partnership that will cover the ongoing AFC Champions League season (2023/2024) as well as the Continent’s most prestigious men’s tournament – the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

VISA will become the Official Regional Partner and exclusive payment services partner for the AFC Champions League in the West Asia region, as well as the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 in the Middle East.

As part of the agreement, VISA will launch its VISA Coin Toss initiative across various AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 matches, which is scheduled to take place from January 12 to February 10, 2024 and the AFC Champions League matches in the West Asia region. VISA will also begin offering the opportunity to win once-in-a-lifetime pitch-side experiences to all its eligible customers in the region.

Datuk Seri Windsor John, the AFC General Secretary, said: “We are delighted to welcome VISA as the AFC’s Official Regional Partner. This latest deal demonstrates the immense value and prestige of the AFC’s competitions, and we thank VISA for the confidence they have shown in Asian football.”

“The passion for the beautiful game that exists in the West Asia region reaffirms that football is indeed Asia’s most popular sport, and we look forward to working in close partnership with VISA to create more historic moments for our fans.”

Tarek Abdalla, SVP, Chief Marketing Officer Visa Central Europe Middle East and Africa said: “As a world leader in digital payments, Visa is proud to partner with the Asian Football Confederation. This partnership not only underscores our commitment to bringing people together through the universal language of sports, but it also aligns perfectly with our mission to facilitate innovative, convenient, reliable, and secure digital transactions. We are excited to pave the way for the future of digital transactions at upcoming AFC events, offering a seamless and cashless experience for teams, and fans alike.”

The partnership underscores VISA’s efforts to bring people across the world together through sports, and to empower and support athletes and sports properties globally. It also goes hand in hand with VISA’s continuous investments in football and its commitment towards engaging, entertaining, and supporting fans worldwide.

This partnership deal was secured and will be managed by Asia Football Group (AFG), the AFC’s commercial agency for 2023–2028.
