AFC Bournemouth sign goalkeeper Neto from FC Barcelona!

AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of goalkeeper Neto from Barcelona.

The experienced Brazilian, who turned 33 last month, has joined the Cherries on a free transfer after agreeing terms on a 12-month deal.

He becomes the club’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Joe Rothwell, Ryan Fredericks and Marcus Tavernier.

Neto’s addition also comes days after the club announced contract extensions for key players Dominic Solanke and Lewis Cook.

Capped once by his country in 2018, Neto has performed at the highest level in Brazil, Spain and Italy, his CV boasting appearances in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

He did the domestic double with Juventus FC in 2015/16 and 2016/17, playing his part as the club lifted the Serie A title and Coppa Italia.

Neto, who also won the Copa del Rey with both CF Valencia and FC Barcelona, collected a UEFA Champions League runners-up medal having been on the bench when Juventus FC lost 1-4 against Real Madrid in the final in 2017.

He started his career with Brazilian top-flight outfit Paranaense before going on to play 224 games – and keeping 78 clean sheets – for AC Fiorentina, Juventus FC, CF Valencia and FC Barcelona.

During his time with AC Fiorentina, Neto was understudy to former Cherries goalkeeper Artur Boruc for two years before establishing himself as their number one.

Neill Blake, AFC Bournemouth Chief Executive, said, “To be able to attract a player of Neto’s calibre is very pleasing. This is a real coup for the club and we’re delighted he has chosen to join us. He has vast experience at the very top level of the game so I’m sure he will be a huge asset for us.”
