AFC conference leaves women’s football legacy for Hong Kong!

Girls and women in Hong Kong will benefit from a football legacy programme funded by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation. The AFC’s Female Member of the FIFA Council Mahfuza Akhter Kiron handed over the AFC’s 400,000HKD donation to President of the Hong Kong Football Association Ltd (HKFA) Timothy Fok and Women’s Football Manager at the HKFA Betty Wong on Thursday at the AFC-EPL Football Social Development Conference 2017 in Hong Kong.

Mahfuza Akhter Kiron said: “As Asia’s female representative on the FIFA Council and a long-time supporter of the women’s game, I am particularly pleased this money will go to helping further develop female players and coaches.”
The women’s football legacy programme will aim to create a larger pool of female players, coaches, referees and match officials in Hong Kong. Targeting women and school girls through a sustainable and strategic legacy programme, the planned activities will include education and awareness-raising through football on health, social inclusion and environmental issues.

Cooperating with international and local specialist partner organisations, the proposed activities will support girls to become “Leaders in Football” in schools. National team players will also act as ambassadors in schools and at local clubs.

The details of the programme will be established by a working group comprising of female football coaches, players and officials and education specialists.
