The three-day AFC Match Commissioner (MC) Seminar for the West Region concluded on September 14, 2022, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where participants benefitted from the educational programmes and in-depth discussions among peers.
Following the success of the MC Seminar for the East region earlier this month, the course welcomed 33 participants from 20 Member Associations (MAs) as well as from the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA).
Much like the East, after a long gap owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was the first instance of a physical meeting taking place for MCs to come together to build on their knowledge to elevate the standards of AFC competitions to new heights.
The first day of the seminar commenced with an opening address from the AFC followed by a presentation highlighting the various roles that a Match Commissioner is expected to take on.
Ahead of the practical session at the Theyab Awana Stadium, FIFA representatives Jeannette Good and Tracy Lu shared informative presentations to ensure that the participants are equipped with all the latest tools and techniques that will help future competitions reach new milestones.
The theoretical session gave way to the second part of the day where the participants were put in groups to complete assignments.
Day 2 of the event was largely spent with speakers from the AFC and the CAF illustrating the most important tenets of match commissioning where the topics ranged from media and broadcasting, and commercial operations to football technology and security matters.
The attendees also undertook the AFC Administration Systems (AFCAS) test which was overseen by the AFC.
Finally, on the last day of the seminar, the participants proceeded to take the Match Commissioner test. To help the MCs hone their skills in a holistic manner, a communication test was also planned before the seminar came to a close.
