AFC MC Seminar upskills current Match Commissioners to reinforce world-class competition standards!

The AFC Match Commissioner (MC) Seminar 2023, which closed today, reaffirmed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment to upskilling existing MCs to ensure they maintain the highest professional standards.

The three-day seminar, which comprised case studies, presentations shared by FIFA Head of Competition Management Gary Moretti and CONCACAF Head of National Competitions Pedro Velasquez, Q&A and brainstorming sessions, competition overviews and written tests, was attended by more than 70 MCs from the AFC Member Associations (MAs) across the Continent.

AFC MCs continue to play a critical role in enabling the Confederation to achieve its Vision of delivering high-quality competitions. As such, the seminar was designed to equip the MCs with the relevant systems, processes and match operations know-how to further enhance their contributions.

It also provided them with a platform to share knowledge, experiences and ideas with their peers.

In his welcome address, AFC Deputy General Secretary Shin Man Gil said that while the AFC competitions had continuously grown in quality and stature, the coming years would prove pivotal as the Confederation looked to usher in a new era of progress.

“The key reason for our growth is our commitment to attaining new benchmarks and milestones with the aim to continuously outshine our achievements from the previous years,” said the AFC Deputy General Secretary.

“The competitions in 2023 and 2024 will strengthen the foundations and build the momentum for us to chart a new trajectory of development and growth, particularly against the backdrop of new reforms to be introduced from the 2024/25 season and beyond.

“As AFC Match Commissioners, every one of you will continue to play a key role in building a future where Asian football continues to retain its world-class status.”
