AFC Medical Officers Workshop held!

In anticipation of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) organised the AFC Medical Officers Workshop, with lectures, hands-on training and interactive sessions ensuring medical care of the highest standards across all venues during the competition.

Prior to these workshops, several seminars were held virtually in 2023 as part of the continuous development programme in preparation for Asia’s crown jewel, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

Marking a significant milestone in the competition’s history, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 will witness the introduction of paperless anti-doping controls through the use of the Modoc application, as well as the implementation of Dried Blood Spot (DBS) testing for the first time, further underlining the AFC’s continuous efforts to keep Asian football clear of doping.

“The AFC doctors have familiarised and adapted the new paperless approach very well,” said Mr. Daniel Kim, Manager, FIFA Anti-Doping Unit.

“The new approach and methodology in the fight against doping in football is about keeping abreast with changing times and technology,” said Dato Dr. Gurcharan Singh, AFC Medical Committee Chairperson and Chief Medical Officer of the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup.

“The young team of well-trained AFC Medical and Anti-Doping Officers are all geared up to ensure the safety of players and that football is kept clean of doping. The Local Organising Committee Medical Team led by Dr. Khalid Al-Khelaifi from Aspetar is providing the highest professional support to the AFC. It has been an excellent collaboration for the good of football in Asia,” he added.
