AFC President and ASEAN heads discuss development in Southeast Asia!

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) met with the President and the General Secretary of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), Major General Khiev Sameth and Winston Lee respectively on Wednesday to discuss scopes of development in Southeast Asian football.

Southeast Asia made noticeable strides in 2022, in AFC Competitions as well as in upholding the AFC’s mission of undertaking effective social responsibility campaigns and Shaikh Salman showed his appreciation for the efforts displayed by the Member Associations (MAs) and the AFF.

Major General Khiev Sameth, who is also the Vice President of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), was congratulated by Shaikh Salman on the Cambodian women’s national team’s achievement of making their debut in the FIFA ranking table earlier this year.

The President made note of the plans of the FFC to promote and develop youth football in the nation where special emphasis has gradually been directed towards the improvement of the women’s national team which has already come a long way since its inception with youth teams regularly fielded in the AFC and regional age-group tournaments.

Currently endorsed under the B-level membership of the AFC Coaching Convention, talks also took place on the FFC gradually aiming for an A-level status in the near future while also preparing to apply for endorsement under the AFC Grassroots Charter.

Major General Sameth went on to express his gratitude towards Shaikh Salman for the support that Cambodia and the other MAs in the ASEAN region have received under the AFC’s Dream Asia Legacy Project, which has been empowering children from the most remote corners of the region to gain access to the beautiful game.

The AFC President, in turn, reassured the two ASEAN leaders of the AFC’s resolve in providing support to its MAs and RAs.
