AFC President holds productive meeting with FF of Timor-Leste!

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, President of the AFC, today welcomed Francisco Jeronimo, President of the Federacao Futebol De Timor-Leste (FFTL), here in the Malaysian capital, where the two engaged in a fruitful dialogue on a range of football-related matters.

Shaikh Salman provided a comprehensive update to the FFTL President, who was also accompanied by the Federation’s General Secretary Gregorio Correia, about the AFC’s new-look development programmes, which span across all aspects of the game as well as competitions and encouraged the FFTL to leverage on the numerous tailormade offerings.

The discussions centered around the opportunities and challenges facing the FFTL, with the AFC President highlighting the rising participation of FFTL’s age-group teams in the AFC’s competitions.

“I am pleased to note the participation of Timor-Leste age-group teams in our Continental competitions because it demonstrates that football development is on the right path under President Jeronimo’s leadership and gives us tremendous hope for the future,” said Shaikh Salman.

FFTL have continued to actively engage with the AFC in raising the game’s standards, closely collaborating with the Confederation to identify sustainable solutions and overcome roadblocks.

President Jeronimo, on his part, emphasised that the AFC’s help was critical for Timor-Leste, where football is the most popular sport and there is a limited but talented and promising pool of players. He lauded the AFC’s unwavering support through its technical and development programmes in assisting Timor-Leste football strive higher and gain in confidence.

FFTL obtained full membership credentials of the AFC in 2002 and have been an active member of the Asian football family ever since.
