The New York Cosmos today announced the signing of Bangladesh international midfielder Shamit Shome for the remainder of the USL League One season.
Shome, 28, joins the Cosmos after spending the last three seasons with Cavalry FC, where he made 62 Canadian Premier League appearances. He brings nearly a decade of professional experience, including four seasons in MLS with Montreal Impact.
“Shamit gives us another experienced player who can step into our midfield and contribute immediately,” said Giuseppe Rossi, Head of Soccer for the New York Cosmos. “He plays at a high level and has the leadership ability to help elevate the team as a whole.”
Shome is an active member of the Bangladesh national team, making his debut in June 2025 during AFC Asian Cup qualification and scoring his first international goal against Hong Kong in October.
“It’s a privilege for me to play for the Cosmos.” said Shome. “Everyone knows the history with Pelé and Beckenbauer but I also had the opportunity to play against great Cosmos players in 2016 when they had guys like Juan Arango and Ayozé. Things have come full circle and I’m really excited to get started.”
Before representing Bangladesh, Shome progressed through Canada’s youth national team system and earned two senior international appearances in 2020. Born in Edmonton to Bangladeshi parents, he received FIFA clearance to represent Bangladesh in 2025.
Shome will join the Cosmos immediately and will be eligible for selection upon completion of all league and federation requirements.
