AFC President offers condolences on passing of Gerard Houllier!

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, today expressed his deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Gerard Houllier, who passed away in France aged 73.

The AFC President said: “Gerard was a great friend of Asian football and regularly attended our technical workshops and seminars – in particular the Elite Club Coaches Forum, where he has been a central figure in the last three years. He generously shared his great knowledge and expertise for the benefit of the development of the game on this Continent.

“The news of his passing has been a terrible shock to everyone in Asia and the AFC and the entire Asian football family sends their condolences to all of Gerard’s many friends in the game but most importantly to his wife and family.

“We also extend our sympathy to the French Football Federation, where he was the Technical Director as well as coach of the French national team and the U18 and U20 sides and to FIFA and UEFA where Gerard played a key role on their Technical Committee.”
