AFC President Shaikh Salman Condolences on the passing of India’s Amal Dutta!

AFC logoThe Asian Football Confederation president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has offered his heartfelt condolences on the passing of India’s pioneer professional football coach Amal Dutta who died at the age of 86 on Sunday, July 10.

Amal Dutta became well-known as a tactical genius having played as a midfielder for club sides Mohun Bagan and East Bengal as well as his country during the 1954 Asian Games.

After his retirement, Dutta took a one-year FA coaching course in England and got his first big break four years after his return as he took over East Bengal in 1963, which he managed until 1964.

He became India’s first professional coach after quitting his job to coach full-time and was also the technical director of the Indian team for the Nehru Cup in 1987.

He is survived by his son Ashish and daughter Anita.

Dutta will be remembered for his service, passion and contribution to Indian football.

The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the family and friends of Amal Dutta in this difficult time.
