AFC receives Saudi Arabia & Qatar bid books for 2027 AFC Asian Cup!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) received the Bid Books to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup from Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and Qatar Football Association (QFA) at the AFC House yesterday, December 14.

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Malaysia Mahmoud H.S Qattan and Qatar’s Ambassador to Malaysia Fahad Mohammed Kafoud visited the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to officially submit the necessary bidding documentations.

On Sunday, the AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa also received Saudi Arabia’s Bid Book from the SAFF delegation, led by its President Yasser Almisehal in Bahrain.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia are among five AFC Member Associations bidding to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup alongside the All India Football Federation, the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran and Uzbekistan Football Association – all of whom have until December 18, 2020 to submit their bid book.

Saudi Arabia, winners of the Continent’s most coveted prize on three occasions in 1984, 1988 and 1996, are bidding to stage Asia’s crowning jewel for the first time. The Green Falcons have an impeccable record in the showpiece as they are just one shy of equalling record-holders Japan with four titles and alongside South Korea, have reached the Final more times than any nation with six appearances.

Meanwhile Qatar, the reigning champions of the AFC Asian Cup™ after clinching their maiden crown in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2019, are aiming to be the first Asian country to stage the Continent’s premier national team competition for the third time, having hosted previously in 1988 and 2011.

China were confirmed as hosts for the upcoming 2023 AFC Asian Cup at the AFC Extraordinary Congress in Paris, France in June 2019, and will be looking to build upon the legacy of the last edition in the UAE and setting the benchmark for the 2027 edition.

The host nation for the 19th edition of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup will be announced in 2021.
