Introducing an exciting fusion of tradition and modernity, the official poster for the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup – Thailand was unveiled earlier this week, capturing the essence of football in Asia and the rich heritage of the host nation.
Designed by students and lecturers of Bangkok’s Srinakharinwirot University, the poster, at its core, celebrates the spirit of inclusivity and takes great care to promote not only the upcoming contest but also gives a nod to all the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the experience of the event memorable.
Capturing Thailand’s rich cultural heritage along with their love for football, the poster uses an amalgamation of the country’s traditional Kranok pattern of intricate geometric shapes and symmetry with that of a sky perspective and the national flags of the participating Member Associations (MAs).
A prominent feature of the poster is the elephant, the national animal of Thailand that is widely revered in Thai culture. Symbolising tenets such as strength, royalty, wisdom and good luck, the white elephant in the image represents the aspirations of the young footballers across Asia, eager to taste success on the continental stage.
Using several small symbols such as palm trees and deck chairs, alluding to the popular Thai beaches, the identity also weaves a visual narrative depicting all that Thailand has to offer to the participants and fans alike, beyond the football pitch which ranges from Thailand’s rich history to its picturesque natural beauty.
In addition to the elements highlighting the AFC U17 Asian Cup, the poster also prominently features the logo of the newly launched AFC LIVE app, which ushers in a new chapter in the Confederation’s history as it takes another key step forward in the digital era.
