AFC welcomes third batch of students to its AFC Football Management Diploma!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today welcomed the third batch of aspiring Asian football leaders to the AFC Football Management Diploma (FMD) online educational programme.

Participants from the AFC Member Associations (MAs), Regional Associations (RAs) as well as independent stakeholders are sitting for the programme, which follows the first edition in November 2021 and the second in January this year. They will attend virtual lectures and discussions and sit for quizzes as part of a dynamic, comprehensive 13-month curriculum before graduating in June 2023.

Sessions comprise 460 hours of study time covering 12 core modules – the Organisation of World Football, International Sports Federations, Strategic Management, Financial Management, Income Generation, Media & Communications, Event Management, Operational Management, Human Resource Management, Child Safeguarding & Social Responsibility, Sports Law and Club Licensing.

These modules are aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of how football management shapes and informs the modern game. They will enhance problem-solving, decision-making and analytical skills, which form an integral part of today’s business in the sport.

The AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John welcomed participants during the first session today and said: “As future leaders of the AFC’s Member and Regional Associations as well as the larger ecosystem, you shoulder the AFC’s aspirations of a brighter future for Asian football. So, I urge you to give your all and make full use of the learning opportunities offered by the FMD.

“And when you eventually take your place alongside the leaders of Asian football, always personify good governance and professionalism and aim for excellence.

“These traits will help you make tough decisions, plan your next move and further contribute to the development of the game.”

The online Diploma programme was introduced under the AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE), which opened in September 2021 to develop the skillsets and expertise required by future leaders.

Designed by the Switzerland-based Football Business Academy (FBA), the FMD is targeted at middle and senior management of the AFC’s MAs, RAs as well as independent stakeholders.
