AFC’s Shaikh Salman offers condolences on the passing of Singapore’s Salim Moin!

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has extended his condolences to the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and the family and friends of former Singapore international Salim Moin who passed away at the age of 59 on Friday, November 6.

Known for his playmaking attributes and a knack for scoring long-range goals, Salim featured for the Singapore national team for over two decades including starring in several FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and played a key role in the Lions’ side that clinched the Malaysian Cup in 1980.

The AFC President said, “On behalf of the Asian football family, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Salim Moin.”

“He will always be remembered for his lifelong commitment to the development of Singapore football. The Asian football family joins me in mourning the loss of a true servant of the game.”

Following an illustrious playing career, the former attacking midfielder turned his attention to coaching, enjoying stints at clubs which include Balestier Khalsa, Tampines Rovers and Hougang United. He also helmed the Singapore Under-18 team.

As assistant coach of the Cheetahs, he contributed significantly to Hougang United’s most successful season last year when the Singapore Premier League side secured a place in the AFC Cup.

The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the loved ones and friends of Salim, the FAS and the Singapore football family during this difficult time.
