African football to test its mettle in Paris 2024!

With the final round of qualifiers for the Women’s Football Tournament at the Olympics for the two African representatives set to take place next month, the official draw of the group stages was officially conducted on Wednesday evening in Paris.

Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia are the four nations contesting the two available spots for Africa in Paris, and while their tickets to the global showpiece are yet to be booked, the group opponents of the eventual qualifiers were confirmed.

The winner between Morocco and Zambia will be pitted against four-time Olympic champions, United States of America (USA), European silver-medalists Germany as well as recent FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts, Australia in Group B.

An equally tough group awaits the winner of the double-legged tie between Nigeria and South Africa who will be drawn into Group C to face reigning world champions Spain, 2004 and 2008 silver medallists Brazil as well as 2012 silver medallists in the London edition, Japan.

The women’s leg of the competition consists of 12 nations, with the best third finishers from the three groups of four also advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Women’s Football Tournament of the Olympics will kick off on 25 July with a clash between Canada and Colombia at the Geoffroy Guichard stadium in Saint-Etienne.

Group B: USA, Zambia/Morocco, Germany, Australia
Group C: Spain, Japan, Nigeria/South Africa, Brazil
