Ahmed Hassan joins CAF and LOC to launch U-20 Africa Cup of Nations!

CAF and the Local Organizing Committee of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations presented their plans for the tournament, which starts this Sunday, to a packed media.

The TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off this 19 February in Cairo, with a promising opening match between hosts Egypt and Mozambique at 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT).

CAF Chief Operations Officer Abi Ijasanmi, CAF Head of Competitions Khaled Nassar, and Local Organizing Committee Chairman and EFA President Gamal Allam were in front of the press before the kick-off of the tournament. Ahmed Hassan, a legend of Egyptian and world soccer, was also present.

This first meeting between the organizers and media representatives served to launch the festivities around the 23rd edition of the competition.

CAF’s Chief Operations Officer Abi Ijasanmi was pleased with the preparations and recalled the importance of the tournament for CAF.

“The TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations has revealed some of the greatest talents that Africa has and for us at CAF, it is part of a great process that aims to build a path for the youth. From the African Schools Football Championship to the different age categories U17, U20, U23, CAF is fully invested in offering opportunities to young people now invited to “dream big,” said Mrs. Ijasanmi.

The President of EFA Gamal Allam welcomed the tournament’s guests “in Egypt, their second country”.

He added: “I wish good luck to the participants and the Egyptian team to succeed in their participation. The biggest role is for the media in promoting the championship, I urge you all to follow the CAN U20 with passion.”
