AIFF condoles George Ambrose’s death!

The All India Football Federation condoles the death of former India international George Ambrose who passed away on Sunday on August 7, 2022.

Ambrose, a defender who made his international debut against Burma (now Myanmar) in the Olympic qualifiers in Rangoon (now Yangon) in 1972, represented India in three matches. He was also a member of the Indian National Team’s Merdeka campaign in 1973.

AIFF acting General Secretary Sunando Dhar in his condolence message said: “It is sad to hear that Mr. Ambrose is no more. He has been an inspiration for so many footballers across many generations. My condolences to his family, and prayers for his soul to rest in peace.”

At the domestic level, he represented Goa in the Santosh Trophy from 1971-75, and scored two goals. He also stayed an integral member of Vasco Sports Club from 1970-80.
