AIFF to propose Mumbai as host of 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup if named hosts!

The All India Football Federation has decided to suggest the financial capital of Mumbai as host of 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, if it earns the rights to host the competition.

India is one of three bidders besides Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan who want to host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2022.

The AIFF has decided to suggest Mumbai as the host city with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) requiring the host city to have two international class stadiums to host the eight nation competition.

In Mumbai, the Mumbai Football Arena and the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai would be selected venues, while the D.Y. Patil Stadium was one of the venues for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and would be ready with litte modifications, the Mumbai Football Arena is a home venue of Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC and has hosted India matches in the past but for such a continental competition it would need to be upgraded.

India has only hosted the AFC Women’s Asian Cup once back in 1979 and it would be a big boast for women’s football in India, if the tournament is granted to India by the AFC.
