AIFF U-19 Colts go down fighting against Aizawl FC

AIFF Under-19sThe AIFF Under-19 Colts went down fighting 0-2 against Aizawl FC in their opening fixture of the Independence Day Cup 2016 in Aizawl, Mizoram on Friday, July 29.

Aizawl FC took the lead in the 37th minute through new Ghanaian striker Bright Mends and doubled their lead in the 45th minute through Ricky to go into the tunnel leading 2-0 at half-time.

The Indian Colts had an opportunity to reduce their deficit in the 75th minute, after Aizawl FC failed to convert from the spot in the 67th minute, when Edmund failed to tap the ball home following a cross from the right flank.

The Colts stepped up their ante but failed to test the Aizawl FC custodian. In the 85th minute, Minga’s header off a Edmund’s cross flew whiskers wide of the post as the Indian Colts searched for a goal.

However the Aizawl FC defence stood strong to see out the match and Aizawl FC emerged eventual victors at full-time as the scoreline read 2-0.

The AIFF Colts take on Chanmari FC next on Tuesday, August 2.
