Eintracht Frankfurt have signed the winger Ansgar Knauff permanently from Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract until June 30, 2028. The 21-year-old has been on loan for the last year and a half.
Ansgar Knauff joined the Eagles on loan from Borussia Dortmund in January 2022. The Germany U-21 international developed into a key player for Eintracht Frankfurt during his first half-season, posting three goals and two assists in 19 competitive appearances. Knauff started every match in the UEFA Europa League campaign and only missed the final seconds of the quarterfinal second leg in Barcelona. He made a key contribution to the success in Europe, not least with his goals in the quarterfinal first leg against FC Barcelona and in the semifinal first leg at West Ham United. The right-footer also played the full duration of the final against Glasgow Rangers.
In the 2022/23 season, Knauff made a total of 33 appearances in all competitions, including six in the UEFA Champions League. He registered one goal and three assists this term. Knauff was recently selected in the provisional German squad for the European Under-21 Championship, which takes place in Georgia and Romania from June 21 to July 8. He has eight caps to date for the highest youth-level national side (one goal).
Timmo Hardung, who will serve as sporting director at Eintracht Frankfurt as of July 1, said: “Ansgar has played a significant part in our sporting success with his performances over the last one and a half years, so there was no question that we wanted to retain him permanently. We’re pleased that Ansgar sees Eintracht as his new sporting home and we’re convinced by the footballing qualities he’s shown up to now. We’ve also been impressed by Ansgar’s determined attitude and his character in the last 18 months, and we know that we want to take him on the next steps in his development.”
