Arsenal FC’s Matteo Guendouzi joins Hertha BSC on loan!

Hertha Berlin have added to their midfield options by bringing in the 21-year-old Frenchman Matteo Guendouzi on a season-long loan from Arsenal FC.

The Blue-Whites have completed yet another deadline-day deal, with Mattéo Guendouzi joining Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan from Arsenal FC. “Despite his young age, Mattéo’s experience of almost 60 Premier League appearances adds even more versatility to our midfield. He adds aspects to our game that will improve us even further,” said Michael Preetz. Hertha’s new number 8 is excited to get started, “The talks with the management convinced me that this is the right move. Not only do I want to develop further on a personal level, but I also want to help the club take the next step. I’m buzzing to start life in Berlin as a Hertha player!”

Guendouzi, who was born 30 kilometres outside Paris in Poissy and also holds a Moroccan passport, can play in central and defensive midfield.

His career began in the youth setup at Paris Saint-Germain, who he played for between 2005 and 2014 until his move to FC Lorient. The 6’1″ right-footer, who is known for his long, curly hair, steadily worked his way into the first team, ultimately making 30 appearances in all competitions before he completed a move to Arsenal FC at 19 years old. Guendouzi has featured in 82 competitive games for the Gunners, with 17 of them coming in the UEFA Europa League, including 2019’s final defeat to Chelsea FC. His first title with the London club came one year later, however, in the FA Cup.

Didier Deschamps has called the Frenchman into the national team on four occasions, but he is yet to win his first cap for the world champions. He has played 23 times for France at youth level though scoring 2 goals.
