AS Monaco loan Thilo Kehrer from West Ham United!

AS Monaco have announced the arrival of Thilo Kehrer. The 27-year-old German international defender is on loan from West Ham United FC until the end of the season, with an option to buy.

After playing in the Bundesliga and in the Premier League, German international Thilo Kehrer (27 caps) is now set to make his return to Ligue 1 with AS Monaco, a league he knows well after spending four seasons with Paris Saint-Germain (2018-2022).

The native of Tübingen, near Stuttgart, made his debut in Germany. He trained with FC Schalke 04, whom he joined in 2012. There, he played more than a hundred games for the youth teams and, as captain, won the German U-19 championship in 2015. His professional debut came shortly afterwards, in a Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg on February 6, 2016 (a 3-0 win).

A versatile player capable of playing across the back line, Thilo Kehrer became a key element of the Schalke 04 team. As part of a three-man defence during the 2017-18 season, he made a major contribution, alongside Breel Embolo, to the club’s second-place finish in the Bundesliga this season.

His strong performances in Germany brought Thilo Kehrer to the attention of Paris Saint-Germain, who signed him in 2018. Comfortable playing in a system with 2 or 3 central defenders, he quickly earned playing time under Thomas Tuchel.

With PSG, the 1.86m defender also made his debut in the UEFA Champions League. He made his first appearance in the prestigious competition in 2018, in a 6-1 win against Red Star Belgrade, and went on to play in around 20 European matches, including fixtures against great clubs like Liverpool FC, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, culminating in his featuring in the 2020 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich as a starter.

Thilo Kehrer made 128 appearances for PSG, winning the Ligue 1 title three times (2019, 2020 and 2022), the Coupe de France twice (2020 and 2021), the Coupe de la Ligue once (2020) and the Trophée des champions in 2019.

After four years with the Paris club, he joined West Ham United in the Premier League in the summer of 2022. There, Kehrer played a part in what would be a historic season for the Hammers, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League against AC Fiorentina to claim their first European title since the European Cup Winners’ Cup almost sixty years earlier (1965).

Regularly called up to the German national youth teams, for whom he played 33 matches, Thilo won the European Under-21 Championship in 2017.

His performances and consistency at the highest level earned him his first call-up to Joachim Low’s Germany squad in September 2018. With Germany, the defender has played 27 matches and was in the Mannschaft squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At AS Monaco, the German international defender will wear the number 5.
