He further elaborated on the importance of collaborating with clubs and local football associations to organise grassroots activities to ensure that children continue to cultivate an active lifestyle, instil lifelong values and valuable lessons through the grassroots movement.

Ono also shared the philosophy of promoting ‘serious fun’ in grassroots activities and explained the correlation between grassroots football and the elite national level as well as the JFA’s Tutor’s Tutor Course which was delivered in 47 prefectures across the country.

Galey Zangpo, the Bhutan Football Federation Head of Grassroots Football, said: “This session was a good opportunity for us to learn from the JFA. The presentation gave us new ideas that we can implement in our Member Associations, and it is also a benchmark that we need to achieve if we want to upgrade our status in the AFC Grassroots Charter.”

Resul Mammedov, the Football Federation of Turkmenistan Grassroots Manager, added: “We must focus on the grassroots movement as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic which delayed some of our activities.

“It is important that we reach out to children by organising grassroots events and continue promoting football. The Q&A session was also important as we had the opportunity to be part of meaningful conversations related to grassroots football.”

The Grassroots Special Online Session concluded with a constructive Q&A session that provided key insights on the benefits of small-sided matches across the different age groups, the positive impact of futsal and ‘free play’ as well as the importance of inculcating intrinsic motivation as essential elements to support the tactical and technical development of children and youth players.
