Asia’s 2022 FIFA World Cup finals, playoff teams finalised!

United Arab Emirates will face Australia in the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar playoff after sealing third place in Group A on the final night of action on Tuesday, March 29.

The UAE defeated South Korea 1-0 to finish ahead of Iraq and Lebanon.

Australia, meanwhile, had already confirmed third place in Group B ahead of Matchday 10, and completed their campaign with a 0-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

With Asia’s four automatic qualifiers having already been decided ahead of Matchday 10, the focus on Tuesday was on who would emerge group winners and who would advance to the Asian Playoff from Group A.

The winners of the Asian Playoff will face the fifth-placed team from the South American qualifiers with Asia possibly having a historic six teams at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea’s defeat meant Iran topped Group A on 25 points following their 2-0 win over Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia topped Group B after defeating Australia 1-0, with the West Asians finishing on 23 points.

Japan’s hopes of finishing top of Group B were dashed after they were held 1-1 by Vietnam as Hajime Moriyasu’s men finished on 22 points.

The draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup – Qatar will be held in Doha on Friday, April 1.
