Asia’s representatives at FIFA women’s competitions confirmed!

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) notes the inability of the DPR Korea Football Association (DPRK FA)’s national age-group teams to compete in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup – India and 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup – Costa Rica respectively.

The AFC Women’s Football Committee at its third meeting held on October 14, 2021, had decided that in the unfortunate event of possible withdrawals from the respective FIFA competitions, the next highest ranked team from the respective qualification competitions would represent Asia accordingly.

Consequently, Australia, who finished fourth in the 2019 AFC U-19 Women’s Championship – Thailand, will replace North Korea and join Japan and South Korea as Asia’s three representatives at the upcoming 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup – Costa Rica, which will be held from August 10 to 28.

Meanwhile, China, who finished third in the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship – Thailand, will join Japan and host India as the AFC’s three representatives at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup – India scheduled to take place from October 11 to 30.
