ATK Mohun Bagan announce the departure of striker David Williams!

Former Indian Super League champions ATK Mohun Bagan have announced that their Australian striker David Williams will leave the club in the summer.

34 year old Brisbane-born David Joel Williams played in his youth for Queensland-based sides Pine Hills FC, Westside FC, Milchelton and Queensland Academy of Sport, where he spend time with the Academies of Belgian side Club Brugge and Liverpool FC.

For there he signed for Australian A-League side Queensland Roar in January 2006, but only four months later he moved to Danish side Brøndby IF, where he played initially for the reseves before getting a chance with the first team under Rene Meulensteen, who also coached the Kerala Blasters in the past.

But by 2009 things didn’t work out and Williams came back to Australia to play for North Queensland Fury, first on loan and then he was signed by the club. He thereafter was signed by Sydney FC on loan for the AFC Champions League.

He signed in 2011 for Melbourne City FC and spend five seasons with them. In 2016, Williams tried his luck again in Europe by signing for Szombathelyi Haladás in Hungary. After two seasons he returned to the A-League to sign for Wellington Phoenix and from there he in 2019 moved to India with team mate Roy Krishna, who jointly took ATK to the 2019/20 ISL title.

In the 2020/21 season, David Williams was again a key player for now ATK Mohun Bagan but they missed out on the title to Mumbai City FC.

Last season, David Williams got less playing time in the first eleven but still had his moments. He is expected to stay in India and move to another Indian Super League franchise.
