ATK Mohun Bagan score convincing 3-0 derby win over SC East Bengal!

ATK Mohun Bagan triumphed over archrivals SC East Bengal 3-0 in the 2021/22 season’s first Kolkata Derby at Tilak Maidan in Vasco on Saturday night.

Goals from Roy Krishna, Manvir Singh and Liston Colaco in the first half proved to be enough to continue ATK Mohun Bagan’s dream run in the Indian Super League – Season 8.

SC East Bengal coach Jose Manuel Diaz made four changes to the team that played against Jamshedpur FC, with Joyner Lourenco, Raju Gaikwad, Bikash Jairu, and Daniel Sidoel all getting a look in in place of Sourav Das, Wahengbam Angousana, Chima Chukwu and Hira Mondal. ATK Mohun Bagan coach Antonio Lopez Habas, on the other hand, opted for an unchanged eleven.

The game began well for SC East Bengal, with the Red-and-Gold brigade dominating position in the opening few minutes. However, ATK Mohun Bagan soon found their rhythm when Pritam Kotal’s cross landed at Roy Krishna’s feet inside the penalty area. The Fiji striker seized the opportunity, placing the shot out of goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya’s reach.

Two minutes later, Joni Kauko’s defence-splitting through ball found the run of Manvir Singh, who punched it hard into the top corner of the goal to double ATK Mohun Bagan’s lead.

Liston Colaco got into the scoresheet for the second successive match when he capitalised on a loose ball, beating Arindam Bhattacharya to the goal and slotted it into an empty net.

Injuries of key players such as Arindam Bhattacharya, who had to come off in the first half, and Raju Gaikwad, didn’t help SC East Bengal’s cause either.

Substitute goalkeeper Suvam Sen impressed under the bar since coming on, denying the ATK Mohun Bagan attacking line-up several times. Adil Khan looked sharp as well after coming on.

With the win, ATK Mohun Bagan move to the top of the ISL, with six points from two matches, while SC East Bengal are placed 10th with only a point to their name.
