ATK sign Australian forward Eli Babalj as a replacement!

Former Indian Super League champions ATK on Saturday signed Australian forward Eli Babalj as a replacement striker for the remainder of ISL-5.

It is the second replacement for striker Kalu Uche within less than a week as earlier this week Uruguayan Emiliano Alfaro had been signed on loan to replace Uche, but Alfaro injured himself in training and had himself to be replaced.

26 year old Sarajevo-born Eli Babalj left for Australia with his family at a young age and he played at youth level for FW NTC, Perth Glory, and The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Talented Babalj was signed by Australian A-League expansion club Melbourne Heart as a 17 year old and he spend two successful seasons at the club before moving to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in 2012. But he was back with Melbourne Heart in January 2013 and only a few months later he signed for Dutch Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, but made no first team appearance and had loan spells at PEC Zwolle and Adelaide United before signing a contract with Adelaide in 2017.

Badalj returned to Europe to sign for Czech club Mladá Boleslav in summer 2017 and now he comes to India as a replacement striker to ATK.
