Bayern Munich assistant’s Hermann Gerland & Miroslav Klose to leave the club!

Hermann Gerland, 66, and Miroslav Klose, 42, are leaving FC Bayern Munich in the summer. Both have rendered great service to the German record champions over many, many years.

Gerland has informed the club’s management in a meeting that he will end his work as assistant coach after this season, one year before his contract expires.

Hermann Gerland said, “I started at FC Bayern in 1990 and, apart from one spell away, have given everything for this club for 25 years. During this time, we have experienced great moments and successes, and I was able to work with the best coaches in the world: Jupp Heynckes, Louis van Gaal, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, Hansi Flick – you can’t get better than that. I’ve now approached the club and together we agreed to terminate my contract by mutual consent. I will always remain connected to FC Bayern and its great fans and wish the entire club only the very best for the future.”

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “You cannot rate what Hermann Gerland has done for FC Bayern highly enough. As assistant coach, he won the German league title eight times, the DFB Cup five times, the Champions League twice, the Club World Cup twice and the European Super Cup twice. He also successfully coached our reserve side and was a member of the sporting management at the Campus. Last but not least, he has coached many players, from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm to Thomas Müller and David Alaba, all of whom have made history at FC Bayern. His undeniable eye for talent, his straightforward character and his special sense of humour will be missed by FC Bayern, as well as his high level of professional and personal skills. The door at FC Bayern will always be open for the ‘Tiger’; he will always remain a part of the Bayern family.”

Meanwhile Miroslav Klose, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been part of the FC Bayern coaching team since the beginning of the season. He wants to take the next step in his coaching career after successfully completing the UEFA Pro License training course and after his experiences at the FC Bayern Campus, as well as being a member of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff. Klose will therefore leave the club at the end of the season.

Miroslav Klose said, “I had a great time with this incredibly brilliant squad. Working in this coaching team really was a lot of fun.”

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “We respect Miroslav Klose’s decision and wish him the best of luck and, above all, much success in his future career. Miro had four successful years as a player at FC Bayern, and in 2018 he returned to the FC Bayern Campus as a coach. Alongside Hansi Flick, he has now also been able to gain experience on the first-team coaching staff this season and, particularly as a forwards coach, has played a part in Robert Lewandowski’s record-breaking season, a contribution that should not be underestimated. We’ve seen Miro as a team player, sharing his experience, and at the same time always ready to learn and develop in his new role.”
