FC Bayern Munich today announced the launch of the Football School Taicang with representatives of local government in the Chinese city of Taicang. The long-term partnership includes, among other things, a regular exchange of experiences between Munich and Taicang as well as a permanent presence of FC Bayern youth coaches to support local football in Taicang.
FC Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn said, “Chinese football has enormous potential, which we also want to promote with this football school. FC Bayern has been supporting youth development in China for several years, which led among other things to the signing of goalkeeper Liu Shaoziyang. We now want to continue on this path with the football school in Taicang and help to discover and develop new talents.”
FC Bayern Munich board member for marketing Andreas Jung said, “After Qingdao, Shenzhen and Taiyuan, we are looking forward to the football school in Taicang. Our FC Bayern Shanghai office and the local coaches will support football in Taicang in this new partnership, which should boost development in the region as a whole and also make the FC Bayern brand even better known throughout China.”
Taicang party secretary Wang Xiangyuan said, “Taicang attaches great importance to cooperation with Germany across many areas. With the FC Bayern Football School Taicang and the showroom in the “German City” in the town centre, the sporting and cultural exchange will be strengthened even further, creating a win-win situation for both sides.”
Taicang is a county-level city in the city of Suzhou in Jiangsu province, with an area of 810 square kilometres and a population of 970,000. It is located about 48 kilometres northwest of the centre of Shanghai. Taicang has had close connections with Germany for almost 30 years and is home to many German companies (over 450) in China. As part of the cooperation, visits by delegations from Taicang to Munich are also planned. In addition, local residents will be able to find out more about FC Bayern in the “German City” in the city centre.
