Bayern Munich’s Dr. Michael Gerlinger named new ECA vice-president!

The European Club Association (ECA) has reorganised at the top as a result of the events surrounding the plans for the European Super League. Dr. Michael Gerlinger, director of legal affairs at FC Bayern München AG, is now vice-president of the association. The new chairman is Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, who succeeds Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus FC.

“I am pleased that we in the ECA have shown that we remain capable of acting. We now have the task of re-establishing the ECA Board, as we have lost some prominent members,” explains Gerlinger. “In addition, the focus together with UEFA is on continuing the processes for international competitions from 2024. Decisions in principle have already been made, but we will need to have many more discussions to move forward together.”

Gerlinger has been a member of the ECA board since 2017. The association was founded in January 2008 to represent the interests of clubs. Since 2016, the ECA has been represented with two seats on the UEFA Executive Committee. As of this week, one of these posts is held by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of FC Bayern and honorary chairman of the ECA.
