Bengaluru FC’s 2021 AFC Cup – South Zone playoff match postponed indefinitely!

The pandemic continues to affect the scheduling of international football. Now it has hit former Indian Super League champions Bengaluru FC, whose final 2021 AFC Cup – South Zone playoff scheduled originally for April 28 has been postponed indefinitely.

Bengaluru FC had won their second round qualifier against Tribhuvan Army FC convincingly 5-0 and awaited the winner of the other tie in which Bangladesh’s Abahani Limited Dhaka were to host Club Eagles of the Maldives at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

But the Bangladesh government didn’t allow the match to go ahead, so the game was rescheduled for April 21 in Kathmandu, Nepal, but then pandemic travel restrictions forced another postponement and so far the match couldn’t be rescheduled with a potential plan to play in Goa ahead of the final round qualifiers against Bengaluru FC has not yet been finalised.

Bengaluru FC now will have to wait to see if and when the Abahani Limited Dhaka vs Club Eagles takes place, before the final qualifier can be held.

The 2021 AFC Cup – South Zone group stage is set to be held from May 14 to 20 in Male, Maldives but who will be joining ATK Mohun Bagan, Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh) and Maziya S&RC (Maldives) is currently unclear.
